How I use Claude and Codex to ship client websites faster
My daily AI workflow as a freelance Next.js developer: what I hand to AI, what I never do, and how clients benefit.
I use Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT / Codex every working day. Clients sometimes ask if that means AI builds their site. It doesn’t. It means I spend less time on repetitive work and more on the parts that need judgement.
What I hand to AI
- Reading an unfamiliar codebase and summarising how it’s structured
- Drafting migration scripts that move WordPress content into Sanity
- Writing first versions of tests and edge cases I might miss
- Turning a Lighthouse report into a ranked list of likely causes
- Generating variations of copy, alt text and meta descriptions for review
What I never hand to AI
- Final decisions about architecture and your business logic
- Anything that ships without me reading and testing it
- Your private data or credentials
How it helps clients
Work that used to take a day, like mapping hundreds of URLs for redirects, now takes an hour. That time goes back into testing, polish and communication. The result is faster delivery at the same quality bar.
AI inside your product
Because I use these tools daily, I know where they shine and where they fail. That helps when building AI features for clients: chat assistants that answer from your own content, smart search, and writing helpers inside your CMS. The assistant on this website is one example.
